Uber is licensed to run shuttle buses in Delhi. The buses offer advance seat reservations and real-time tracking, aiming to cut traffic congestion and air pollution in the capital city.
Uber has been granted a license by the Transport Department of Delhi to operate the Uber shuttle in the city. This initiative is part of the Delhi Premium Bus programme, which allows passengers to reserve seats in advance on their preferred route using the ‘Uber shuttle’ option on the Uber app.

Users can also track the bus’s location and route in real-time and book seats up to a week in advance. The Government of Delhi’s Transport Department has expressed support for the initiative, stating that it is committed to enhancing public transport services and diversifying commuting options for the people of Delhi.

The Uber Shuttle programme, initially tested in Delhi NCR and operational in Kolkata since last year through an agreement with the West Bengal government, aims to assist daily bus commuters in Delhi-NCR. According to Uber, the programme is designed to alleviate traffic congestion and reduce carbon emissions by promoting shared rides through private bus fleets.

Amit Deshpande, Head of Uber Shuttle in India, highlighted the success of the pilot programme and the significant demand for buses, expressing excitement about introducing the convenience of Uber rides to buses in Delhi. Each shuttle bus will have the capacity to carry 19 to 50 passengers and will be operated by local fleet partners using Uber’s technology.
