I recently came across some helpful strategies for managing stress. One suggestion that caught my attention was a physical movement to release tension and stress. It turns out that shaking or rocking movements can be quite effective in helping the body and mind relax after a long and stressful day. This practice, often known for “jiggling,” is designed to calm an overstimulated nervous system by providing deep pressure and joint compression, which can help modulate arousal levels and promote a more balanced and calm state.
To try this technique, you can lie on the floor, connect with your body, and gently press your heels into the ground. You then rock your heels two backwards and forward, allowing the motion to move your body from heels to head. Take breaks to notice how you feel between spurts, and continue these movements for around five to 10 minutes.
Additionally, more vigorous shaking or engaging in activities such as dancing and bouncing to music are also recommended by experts as effective ways to release stress. Yoga, particularly hip opening poses, as well as trauma release exercises, are also beneficial practices for managing stress.
Overall, these physical practices serve as a reminder that the body and mind are interconnected, and sometimes, allowing the body to process stress can be just as important as trying to manage it mentally. So, whether it’s through shaking, movement, or engaging in activities that bring you joy, finding ways to release pent-up stress can make a significant difference in how you feel.
